Club makers seem to have noticed: They’ve brought out a dizzying array of options.\r\nHigh-tech putters\r\nDon’t be confused by all the high-tech (and high-priced) putters on the market. Although they appear as colorful and as different as new cars, most offer only one or two features that may even make them worth the price.\r\n\r\nThe new MOI (moment of inertia) putters have a lot of science behind them, but you don’t have to bother with that. All you need to know is that MOI putters resist twisting on off-center hits. That means that your bad putts turn out better than they would otherwise.\r\nMany modern putters feature alignment aids, such as a pair of white circles, or bold lines or arrows. Another new wrinkle is adding an insert to the face of the putter — often a panel of urethane, the same stuff golf balls are made of — for a softer feel when the putter strikes the ball.\r\nStill, the best feature of all is sound fundamentals. Without them, all the tech support in the world won’t do you much good.\r\nLong putters and belly putters\r\nSome golfers swear by extra-long putters. Others swear at them, saying the long putter is bizarre and ought to be illegal. There is even talk of banning long putters. But if you’re struggling to make putts, you may want give one of them a try.\r\nThe terminology can be confusing: What’s the difference between a long putter and a belly putter? But it’s simple if you know the crucial difference: Both are longer than a standard model, but a long putter is lo-o-onnnger. Its handle goes under the golfer’s chin, while the handle of a belly putter is anchored to the belly. Both are used almost exclusively by players who’ve struggled to make putts the usual way:\r\n\r\n Long putters: Long putters range from 46 inches in length to 50 and up. They remove all wrist action from your putting stroke because your left hand anchors the club to your chest. Your left hand holds the club at the end of the shaft, and your fingers wrap around the grip so that the back of that hand faces the ball. The grip is the fulcrum around which the club swings. Your right hand is basically along for the ride. In fact, your right hand should barely touch the club. Its only role is to pull the club back and follow the club through.\r\n\r\n \r\n Belly putters: A variation on the long putter is the midlength belly putter. You anchor it to your midsection, so that it looks like the club is stabbing you in the navel. Belly putters are 40 to 45 inches long. Like long putters, they’re designed to minimize wrist action in the stroke.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nBoth the long putter and the belly putter are generally seen as a last resort. If you can make putts with a standard-length putter, that’s what you should use.","item_vector":null},"titleHighlight":null,"descriptionHighlights":null,"headers":null},{"objectType":"article","id":193923,"data":{"title":"How to Find the Right Golf Clubs for You","slug":"how-to-find-the-right-golf-clubs-for-you","update_time":"2022-03-15T18:02:43+00:00","object_type":"article","image":null,"breadcrumbs":[{"name":"Home, Auto, & Hobbies","slug":"home-auto-hobbies","categoryId":33809},{"name":"Sports & Recreation","slug":"sports-recreation","categoryId":34001},{"name":"Golf","slug":"golf","categoryId":34018}],"description":"All golfers need to use the right equipment for their body types and physical conditions, including golf clubs that fit their needs. For instance, many manufacturers of golf clubs specialize in creating clubs for women that have softer shafts, which are lighter and more flexible.\r\nHere are some factors every golfer should consider:\r\n\r\n Grip thickness: Grips that are too thin encourage too much hand action in your swing; grips that are too thick restrict your hands too much. Generally, the proper-sized grip should allow the middle and ring fingers on your left hand to barely touch the pad of your thumb when you hold the club. If your fingers don’t touch your thumb, the grip is too big; if your fingers dig into the pad, the grip is too thin.\r\n \r\n The shaft: Consider your height, build, and strength when you choose a club. If you’re really tall, you need longer (and probably stiffer) shafts.\r\nWhat does your swing sound like? If your swing makes a loud swish noise and the shaft bends like a long cast from a fly-fishing rod at the top of your swing, you need a very strong shaft. If your swing makes no noise and you could hang laundry on your shaft at the top of your swing, you need a regular shaft. Anybody in between needs a medium-stiff to stiff shaft.\r\n \r\n Loft: If you slice, for example, you can get clubs with less loft — or perhaps offset heads — to help alleviate that common problem.\r\n \r\n The clubhead: Today, you can get standard, midsize, and oversize heads on your clubs. Bigger clubheads are more forgiving and can help psychologically, too. (“With a clubhead this big, how could I miss?”)\r\nCredit: PhotoDisc/Getty Images\r\n \r\n The iron: Forged, muscle-backed irons are for good players who hit the ball on the clubface precisely. Cavity-backed irons are for players who hit the ball all over the clubface.\r\n \r\n","item_vector":null},"titleHighlight":null,"descriptionHighlights":null,"headers":null},{"objectType":"article","id":190732,"data":{"title":"What to Plan Before Hanging Wallpaper","slug":"what-to-plan-before-hanging-wallpaper","update_time":"2016-06-06T20:51:10+00:00","object_type":"article","image":null,"breadcrumbs":[{"name":"Home, Auto, & Hobbies","slug":"home-auto-hobbies","categoryId":33809},{"name":"Home Improvement & Appliances","slug":"home-improvement-appliances","categoryId":33939},{"name":"Walls & Painting","slug":"walls-painting","categoryId":33959}],"description":"If you’re hanging wallpaper, careful planning will improve your chances for success. Before you hang the first strip, determine where you want the seams to be and figure out to to deal with uneven ceilings and walls. If you've never hung wallpaper, consider wallpapering a bedroom for practice — and then tackle a kitchen or bathroom when you have more experience.\r\n\r\nHere are the steps to planning for success:\r\n\r\n\t\r\nLocate seams.\r\nTo avoid unpleasant surprises that result from poor seam placement or having patterns cut off in awkward places, don't rush into hanging wallpaper right away. Take a few minutes to evaluate the room to determine where you want each seam to fall and where the patterns will begin relative to the ceiling or the corners of a room. Ask yourself:\r\n\r\n\r\n\t\r\nWhich is the dominant wall? Plan to lay seams where they’ll be the least noticeable. Although seam planning should start on the dominant wall, it’s not the place you want to start papering.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nHow are windows, doors, or focal points (such as a fireplace) spaced on the wall? If the wall has two windows, a symmetrical approach works best. Simply start by centering a seam or strip on the wall between the two windows and work your way out to the corners.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nWhere do you want the final seam? Because you’ll be working around to the final seam from two directions, you need to cut one or both of the last two strips to fit the remaining unpapered space. This means that the pattern probably won’t match at the final seam. An inconspicuous place for the seam is over an entry door.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nAre the ceilings and walls reasonably level and plumb? Because the patterns on the paper are truly horizontal and vertical, they make out-of-whack walls and ceilings even more noticeable.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nDoes the wallpaper pattern create a special need? With a large pattern, cutting the paper vertically at a corner of a room may cause a noticeable break in the pattern. To overcome that problem, start working from the center of the wall or from another spot.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\t\r\nDetermine the starting point for the first strip of wallpaper.\r\nIf you plan seam placement, avoid starting with either of the two strips that lie on either side of the final seam. You want these two drops to be the last ones you do because both drops may have to be cut simultaneously, which requires that they both be wet enough to peel back and reposition.\r\nIt’s usually easier for a right-handed individual to work counterclockwise around a room and a left-handed person to work clockwise.\r\nWherever you start, use a plumb and chalk line (or a carpenter’s level and pencil) to create a straight, vertical (plumb) guideline. Position the plumb or level at the desired location. Install the first drop about 1/8-inch from the guideline.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nPlan for dealing with unlevel ceilings and out-of-plumb walls\r\nIf you have ceilings that are out-of-level, avoid a straight-across pattern, which would emphasize the out-of-level ceiling. Instead, consider a vertical pattern, such as stripes, or drop-match pattern. Similarly, if you have out-of-plumb walls, avoid vertical patterns because a vertical pattern may start on one wall and cross over to the other at inside and outside corners.\r\nYou may be able to further minimize such problems, at least on the most noticeable wall, by adjusting the position of the paper to avoid having pattern elements close to the edges of ceilings or outside corners.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nCreate out-of-plumb guidelines.\r\nIf you have ceilings or walls that are out of plumb, create a guideline with these steps:\r\n\r\n\r\n\t\r\nMeasure about 4 feet down from the ceiling at each corner and snap a chalk line between the two points.\r\n\r\n\r\nIf an out-of-level ceiling calls for it, you can establish an out-of-plumb vertical guideline.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nUse a framing square to draw a line perpendicular to the chalk line.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nExtend the out-of-plumb line by using a pencil and a straightedge until the line runs from floor to ceiling.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n","item_vector":null},"titleHighlight":null,"descriptionHighlights":null,"headers":null}]},"relatedArticlesStatus":"success"},"routeState":{"name":"Article3","path":"/article/home-auto-hobbies/sports-recreation/golf/how-to-use-plumb-bobbing-in-golf-206210/","hash":"","query":{},"params":{"category1":"home-auto-hobbies","category2":"sports-recreation","category3":"golf","article":"how-to-use-plumb-bobbing-in-golf-206210"},"fullPath":"/article/home-auto-hobbies/sports-recreation/golf/how-to-use-plumb-bobbing-in-golf-206210/","meta":{"routeType":"article","breadcrumbInfo":{"suffix":"Articles","baseRoute":"/category/articles"},"prerenderWithAsyncData":true},"from":{"name":null,"path":"/","hash":"","query":{},"params":{},"fullPath":"/","meta":{}}},"dropsState":{"submitEmailResponse":false,"status":"initial"},"sfmcState":{"status":"initial"},"profileState":{"auth":{},"userOptions":{},"status":"success"}}{"data":{"status":"Internal server error: String cannot be of zero length.
