With deep breathing exercises, you become more mindful of every inhalation and exhalation and the sensations of each part of your body in succession. You can find plenty of deep breathing exercises on the web; most of these exercises go something like this:

  1. Sit perfectly still and relaxed in a comfortable chair.

  2. Take a slow, deep breath.

  3. Exhale slowly and completely while concentrating on all the sensations you’re feeling in your feet.

Focus on the sensations in your toes, heel, and arch: the temperature, the feel of any clothing or air, the pressure against the floor or chair, the feel of blood pumping.

  4. Breathe in slowly, imagining yourself breathing in all these sensations. Feel them flowing into and filling your lungs.

  5. Exhale slowly, imagining your body releasing all those sensations. Continue to exhale until you’ve completely emptied your lungs.

  6. Perform Steps 4 and 5 once or twice before proceeding to the next step.

  7. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 with the next part of your body, and continue to repeat until you’ve attended to every part of your body.

Qigong physical and breathing exercises are a great way to relax and revitalize your mind, body, and spirit.
