How to Upload a Page Thumbnail on Squarespace

By Kris Black

Page thumbnails are used for certain features in your site. Squarespace makes it easy to add them to your site. For example, some templates use them as

  • The index view for pages added in the index navigational area

  • A different website background image on individual pages (Peak template)

  • A different header background image (Five template)

Also, the Collection Link structure block uses the Page Thumbnail image to display an image link to the page. You can add an image as your page’s thumbnail in three ways:

  • Drag an image from your computer. If you have an image on your computer, drag and drop it over the thumbnail image area to instantly upload it to your site.

  • Click the large plus sign. Click the plus sign in the thumbnail image area to open a system dialog box that enables you to select an image on your computer.

  • Click the Download icon in the lower-right corner of the thumbnail image area. This action opens a dialog box where you can add a page URL to a location on the web with an image you want to use.

To add an image from a URL, do the following:

  1. Type the URL of the page with an image you want to use.

Make sure that you have authorization to use the page.

  2. Click the Find Images button.

A screen appears displaying all the images used on the page you added in Step 1.

  3. Hover your cursor over the image you want to use from the grid of images.

As you hover your mouse cursor over an image, horizontal and vertical rulers appear in the upper-left corner of the browser. These rulers show you the size of the image, which can help you determine whether an image is the right size for its intended use.

  4. Click the image to select it.

The image is pulled from the URL you referenced in Step 1 and added to the page thumbnail.

After you have an image uploaded to the Thumbnail Image setting, you can modify the image in Avery Image Editor, and you can change the focal point of the image.
