How to Add Contacts to Your Joomla Site

By Seamus Bellamy, Steve Holzner

Joomla maintains a Contact Manager to let you add contact information to your site. Joomla’s default installation comes with sample contact information to populate your Contact Manager with, so it is important to change those contacts to persons within your organization.

To add a contact to your site, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Components→Contacts→Contacts in any back-end page.

The Contact Manager page opens, listing the eight default contacts that come along your Joomla installation’s sample data.

  2. Click the New button to open the New Contact page.

The Contact Details pane has space for a great deal of contact information, including the following:

    Contact’s Position

    City or Suburb

    State or Province

    Postal Code/ZIP

First Sort Field (used for sorting the entry by name)

Second Sort Field (used for sorting the entry by name)

Third Sort Field (used for sorting the entry by name)

  3. Enter as much contact information as you like into the Contact Details pane.

  4. In the New Contacts pane, choose Contacts from the Category drop-down menu and the user’s name from the Linked User pop-up box.

Want to create a contact page for someone who’s not a user? Just avoid clicking the Select User button.

  5. In the Display Options pane, set radio-button options to specify what contact information appears (and doesn’t appear) in the user’s contact page.

Your choices are similar to those in the Information pane.

  6. Click the Save & Close button.

You return to Contact Manager, which shows the new contact.

  7. Repeat Steps 2–6 to add as many contacts as you want.

Afraid that a Contact listing on your site may be showing too much information? No problem: From the Contact Manager, open up the contact you’re fretting over and expand the Display Options pane. In doing so, you gain access to the options necessary to include or disallow any information from being displayed that you desire.
