How to Create Your Own Fractions Manually in Word 2007

By Dan Gookin

Word 2007’s AutoCorrect feature can build common fractions for you from a small set of existing fraction “characters.” However, when you need a different fraction, such as 3/64, you can create it manually.

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+= (the equal sign).

This is the keyboard shortcut for the superscript command.

  2. Type the numerator.

This is the top part of the fraction. For example, type 3 for 3/64.

  3. Press Ctrl+Shift+=.

    This turns off superscripting.

  4. Type the slash.

This will separate the numerator from the denominator.

  5. Press Ctrl+=.

    This turns on subscripting.

  6. Type the denominator.

This is the bottom part of the fraction.

  7. Press Ctrl+=.

    This turns off subscripting.
