How to Show Lock Screen Notifications on Your Android Tablet

By Dan Gookin

The Lock screen can list the Android tablet’s notifications, just as they appear in the notifications drawer. You can double-tap a notification, unlock the tablet, and then use the app that generated the notification.

Then again, some notifications may pose a security risk. To limit those notifications, or suppress them altogether, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app and choose Sound & Notification.
  2. Choose When Device Is Locked.
  3. Select a Lock screen notification level.

    Three options shown are

    • Show All Notification Content
    • Hide Sensitive Notification Content
    • Don’t Show Notifications at All
  4. Select a notification level.

On Samsung tablets, try these steps instead:

  1. Open the Settings app and choose Lock Screen and Security.

On some tablets, tap the Device tab to locate the Lock Screen item.

  2. Choose Notifications on the Lock Screen.
  3. Choose Content on the Lock Screen.

    The options are

    • Show Content
    • Hide Content
    • Do Not Show Notifications
  4. Select a notification level.

You can also use the list of apps that’s presented (after Step 3) to determine which of those apps can generate Lock screen notifications. Set the app’s master control to the Off position to suppress that specific app’s Lock screen notifications.
