How to Register as an Individual on Grants.gov
If you’re submitting an application to Grants.gov on your own behalf — not on behalf of an organization — the process is pretty simple. You don’t have to mess with obtaining a D-U-N-S number or registering on SAM.gov. All you need to know is the Funding Opportunity Number (FON) for the grant you’re interested in. Here is the process:
From the APPLICANTS tab on the Grants.gov homepage, click the Individual Registration link.
Click the Get Registered as an Individual button.
Enter the FON of the grant you’re applying for and click the Register button.
You can find the FON on the Grants.gov homepage under the NEW OPPORTUNITIES tab or by searching using a keyword, CFDA number, or the agency name.
Complete the registration form.
After you enter a valid FON, you need to complete a profile. Keep in mind that Grants.gov sends all correspondence to whatever e-mail address you enter. For the secret question and answer, enter a question that only you can answer and that you’ll be able to remember in the future. Then create a password and click the Continue button.
On the next screen, you need to validate your information. If you need to change your information, click the Edit button; if your information is correct as entered, click Submit. If you’ve provided all the information correctly, you see a message at the top of the screen that reads “You are successfully registered.”
To continue to the applicant login page, click Continue at the bottom of the page. If you don’t receive the successful message, a different message will appear stating what issue you need to address. Simply correct the error or reach out to the contact center for further assistance.
