The Notification Bar and Panel on Your Tab 4 NOOK

By Corey Sandler

At the tiptop leftmost part of the Home screen on your Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK, you’ll see notification icons. Have any new emails come in recently? Taken any screenshots? Has the system updated any apps for you? This is where to look. (Here, the notifications are from left to right: screenshot, email received, Gmail received.)

If you see a notification icon, you can delve deeper by pulling down the notification panel. Swipe down from the top of the screen with one finger (not two). Tap Email to go to the Email app, tap Screenshot to go to the Gallery and see the image, and so on.

To clear away the notifications, tap the blue X in the upper-right corner of the notification panel. To temporarily put them out of the way, roll the panel back up to from where it came, or press the Back key; the notifications will still be there — and building up over time — but there’s always tomorrow to deal with them.

Speaking of the notification panel, you can customize some of the apps or controls that appear there and adjust brightness of the screen and how loud the beeps, squawks, voices, and music are. Here’s how:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notification panel.

  2. Tap the Settings (gear) icon.

  3. If it isn’t already selected, tap the Devices tab at the top of the screen.

  4. On the left panel, tap the notification panel.

  5. Change the settings on the right side of the screen.
