Get the News with the BBC News App for iPad

The BBC News app for iPad brings international news to you, including written news reports and BBC radio. Some articles even have video additions that include background interviews for added color, broadcast TV reports, and more.

One of the coolest things about the BBC News app is that it is highly customizable. The home screen of the app shows several rows of news articles, with each row representing a different category of news. You can swipe up and down to scroll through these categories, or right to left to scroll through the individual stories in a category.

The app defaults to featuring Americas, Technology, Features & Analysis, and Business, but there are many more categories available, including Science & Environment, Europe, UK, and several other global regions. The featured categories are expanded to show individual stories, and while you can tap any other category to expand it, you can also define which categories are featured by tapping the Edit button at the top of the screen. This is great for expats who want to start off with news from home, or anyone who is interested in a particular category of news. In addition to being able to decide what is featured, you can also reorder the categories as you see fit.

BBC News even offers news in several languages other than English, including Mundo, Brasil, Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simple), Russian, Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. You can find the stories offered in those languages at the bottom of the category list.

The other great thing about this app is that it offers one-tap access to the BBC’s great radio news coverage. Just tap the Live Radio button at the top of screen (make sure to wait a moment while the app buffers the stream), and you’ll have whatever is being streamed by BBC Radio delivered straight to your iPad.

The biggest advantage this app has over some of the other news apps is the BBC’s focus on global news. It’s well designed, and the developers made great use of the iPad’s screen real estate in creating this app. If you have an interest in what’s happening outside the borders of the United States, you should try out BBC News on your iPad.
