How to Make a Windows 7 System Repair Disc - dummies

By Andy Rathbone

In case your computer goes south, you need to create a system image — a complete copy of your hard drive. But you need a System Repair disc to put that system image back onto your computer. That System Repair disc comes in handy for other reasons, as well. When Windows no longer loads, for example, the System Repair disc can search your hard drive for your Windows installation and often bring it back to life.

1Click the Start button and type repair into the Search box.

A list of programs and files that match your search appears.

2Choose Create a System Repair Disc.

This option should appear under Programs.

3In the Create a System Repair Disc dialog box that appears, choose a drive from the drop-down list.

Depending on your computer, choose the CD or DVD drive.

4Insert either a CD or DVD in your computer’s disc drive.

Make sure the CD or DVD is blank.

5Click Create Disc in the dialog box.

Windows begins creating the disc.

6When it’s through, grab a felt-tip pen and write the words Windows 7 Repair Disc on the disc’s printed side, and then stash it in a safe place.

You’ll need that disc to restore your computer from the system image you make.
