Your main online video marketing goal is likely to attract people to your website. When users find your videos on Google, you likely want them to head directly to your website instead of to YouTube.

For this reason, combine traditional search engine optimization techniques with video. Your videos can give you more exposure in search results, and they make your website more attractive.

For search engine optimization (SEO) success, you must embed videos correctly on your website. Follow these steps:

  1. Use a dedicated video hosting service.

    If you place YouTube videos on your website, most search traffic goes directly to YouTube.

  2. Place only one video per web page.

    If you have 20 videos, make 20 individual web pages. Search engines ignore multiple videos per page, and having multiple videos dilutes the effectiveness of your SEO efforts.

  3. Supply a descriptive title for your web pages, and use a keyword-rich URL.

  4. Rather than post the video on the page, add description text that accurately describes the content of the video.

    You can reuse some of the text that you already prepared for your YouTube channel, but avoid using it identically. Search engines don’t like duplicate content.

  5. Use video site maps.
