Exporting the Music You Created on Your iPad/iPhone for Online Use

By Ryan C. Williams, Mike Levine

What good is your music if it only stays on your iPhone or iPad? After you complete a track, you need to export it to some sort of distribution service. The following steps show how to export audio from GarageBand, but most DAWs use a similar set of steps:

  1. Open GarageBand.

You see a list of the songs present in your app.

  2. Tap Select.

Your songs will wiggle to indicate their eagerness to fly free. (Wouldn’t you say that’s exactly how Apple iOS designers described this particular step when they were designing it?)

  3. Tap the song you wish to export.

  4. Tap the plus icon in the upper-left of the screen.

Your export options appear. You can select the final destination for your track (and enter any additional credentials or information, as necessary).
