On your Windows 7 home network, you may need to disable (or enable) file and printer sharing (for example, if you are troubleshooting a network problem or trying to prevent a virus from spreading on your network). To turn file and printer sharing off or on in Windows 7, follow these steps:

Open the Windows Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet.

The Network and Internet window appears.

Click Network and Sharing Center.

The Network and Sharing Center window appears.

In the left pane, click Change Advanced Sharing Settings.

Windows creates separate network profiles for each of your networks (for example, Home or Work and Public).

Under the profile you wish to change, scroll to the File and Printer Sharing section and click Turn Off File and Printer Sharing (or Turn On File and Printer Sharing). Click Save Changes.

Follow these steps again as needed to turn on or off file and printer sharing again.
