SugarCRM For Dummies
SugarCRM (customer relationship management) is a software solution for boosting your company's effectiveness in marketing, sales, and customer satisfaction. Learn the functions of Sugar modules and which modules are used most often and compare the features of each SugarCRM edition to see which one fits your business needs.
SugarCRM Modules Explained
The purpose of a Sugar CRM module is to add new information, access current information, and if needed, edit that information. Anywhere from 15-50 fields exist that contain information specific to that module. Here's what all Sugar modules have in common:
A Home page listing all the records you've added to that module.
Basic and Advanced searching capability for a record within a module.
Sub-panels that contain related information.
A Shortcuts menu.
A Quick Entry form.
The ability to mass update the records in the module.
The ability to export a list of the module records.
Commonly Used SugarCRM Modules
By default, SugarCRM displays 12 modules (elements of the program) across the top of the screen as tabs. You can access the other modules by clicking the double right-pointing arrows on the right side of the Module Tab bar but this list represents the Sugar modules most frequently used:
Accounts: Companies that you do business with.
Contacts: People that you do business with.
Leads: People or companies that you hope you do business with in the future.
Campaigns: An organized structure for keeping track of your marketing efforts; hopefully you'll attract new customers — and retain the ones you already have.
Opportunities: Identifies the various chances you have for selling your goods or services.
Projects: Your mega-tasks that generally require lots of steps — and lots of people to help you out.
Cases: The customer service issues that your company is currently dealing with.
In addition to the basic SugarCRM modules, you can download more modules at www.sugarexchange.com/ or http://www.sugarforge.org/. If you still can't find just what you're looking for create your own using Sugar's module builder.
Comparing the SugarCRM Editions
SugarCRM has three editions: Community (free version of Sugar generally used by businesses with 1-10 users); Professional (generally used by larger organizations wanting additional "team" functionality, improved quoting, forecasting, and reporting capabilities); and Enterprise (version usually used by companies with one hundred or more users). This chart compares the features of the three SugarCRM editions:
