You can view the Windows Firewall dashboard in the Control Panel to see the status of this software and whether your system is currently protected. Remember that Windows Firewall helps to prevent malware from accessing your computer via your Windows 7 home network or the Internet.

Windows Firewall is enabled by default, and is configured to allow all outbound connections and permit only inbound responses to established outbound connections. Thus, there is very little configuration that is required out of the box.

Open the Windows Control Panel, and then click System and Security.

The System and Security window appears.

Click Windows Firewall.

The Windows Firewall window appears.

The status of Windows Firewall is displayed for Home or Work (Private) Networks and Public Networks.

You can quickly check your firewall status from the Control Panel System and Security window (shown in Step 2) by clicking Check Firewall Status under Windows Firewall.
