How to Use Your Image Editor’s Correct Camera Distortion Filter

If you get a distorted view of a subject in a digital photo, use your image-editing program’s Correct Camera Distortion filter to change the distorted image to a normal perspective. Just remember that The Correct Camera Distortion filter can fix everything. The following example is in Photoshop Elements, but most image editing software is similar.

Choose Filter→Correct Camera Distortion.

The Correct Camera Distortion dialog box appears.

Select the Preview option.

This allows you to see your image as you make changes to it.

Specify your correction options.

You can set the values for Remove Distortion (corrects lens barrel, which causes your images to appear spherized or bloated), Amount (adjusts the amount of lightening or darkening around the edges of your photo that you can get sometimes from incorrect lens shading), Vertical Perspective (corrects the distorted perspective created by tilting the camera up or down), Horizontal Perspective (corrects halos and blurs caused by moving the camera), Angle (rotates the image to compensate for tilting the camera), Scale (scales your image up or down) Show Grid (shows and hides the grid, as needed), Zoom (zooms in and out for your desired view).

Click OK to close the dialog box.

You’ve corrected the camera distortion in your image.
