For example, set the type of scan: color, grayscale, or document. You can also set resolution, although the scanner software probably makes the proper adjustment for you. (If not, 200 dpi is good.)

Thanks, this is the clearest information on the internet about how
to use a scanner, the others drivel on about anything but which
button to press and where the cables go in my laptop and the
scanner, but still nothing is happening. I am sure something is
supposed to appear automatically on my screen when the scanner is
attatched to my laptop, so I think I have inserted the cable into
the wrong hole on my laptop. Thanks for not drivelling on in
computerese though. Whilst people like me are just screamig what
button do I press, and where do I put the cable? Mostly it is a
case of how do I switch it on.
