How to Scan Your Computer for Spyware with Windows Defender

Windows Defender is configured by default to scan your computer daily for spyware, and to provide real-time protection (scan any program that attempts to install on your computer). To manually scan your computer, follow the steps below.
Depending on the contents of your hard drive, a manual scan could take only a few minutes or much longer.

1 Click the Start button and type Defender in the Search Programs and Files text box.A list of search results appears. |
2 Click Windows Defender in the search results.Windows Defender is launched and the Windows Defender window appears. |
3 Click the Scan button at the top of the window.Windows Defender begins to scan your computer for spyware. |

4 View the results of the scan.Close the Windows Defender window when you're done. |
