How to Rename User Accounts on a Windows 7 Home Network

With Windows 7 user accounts, several people can use the same computer or network without affecting each other’s personal settings or files. You can rename your Windows 7 user account at any time — you don’t have to re-create the user account.

1

Open the Windows Control Panel, and then click User Accounts and Family Safety.

The User Accounts and Family Safety window appears.

2

Click User Accounts.

The User Accounts window appears.

3

Under Make Changes to Your User Account, click Change Your Account Name.

The Change Your Name window appears.

4

Type in your new account name and click Change Name.

Your new user account name will now appear on the Welcome screen and on the Windows Start menu.
