Although it’s not really necessary to name your tile groups on the Windows 8.1 Start screen, adding a name to a group makes it a little easier to quickly see what’s in each group. For example, if you have Office installed, you might want to create one tile group just for the Office apps and then name the group “Office” or something similar.

You can also add names to your tile groups in Windows 8, but it’s much easier to add those names in Windows 8.1.

To name a tile group, follow these steps:


Swipe up from the bottom edge (or right-click anywhere on the Start screen).

This displays the Customize option in the lower-right corner of your screen.


Tap (or click) Customize.

This displays the Name Group caption above each tile group.


Tap the existing group name and enter the name you’d like to use

Tap the Start screen outside of a group-name box to apply your changes.
