How to Cut and Paste (Move) Text in Word 2007

To move a block of text in Word 2007, you select the text and then cut and paste it. This process is similar to copying a block of text, except that in the second step, you choose the Cut tool rather than the Copy tool.

Select the block of text.

Click the mouse button to anchor the insertion pointer at the beginning of the block, drag to the end of the block (anywhere you want), and release the mouse button.

On the Home tab, choose the Cut tool from the Clipboard group.

The Cut tool is the top tool on the right side.

Click to place the insertion pointer in the spot where you want to paste the copy.

Don’t worry if there’s no room — Word inserts the block into your text.

Choose the Paste tool from the Clipboard group.

The block of text that you cut is pasted into its new home.

You can paste the block into another document you’re working on, or even into another application.

Don't be alarmed when the block of text vanishes! That's cutting in action; the block of text is being moved, not copied. You see the block of text again when you paste.

Don't panic! If you screw up, remember that the Ctrl+Z Undo shortcut undoes a block move.
