How to Create a Livelier PowerPoint 2010 Presentation

To liven up your PowerPoint presentation, whip out a pen and draw on a slide, display the laser pointer, or blank the screen. Use the commands in this table to interact with your presentation and give it another dimension.

To do this . . . Click this slide control button Click the Slides button and choose . . . Right-click and choose . . . On the keyboard, press . . .
Display the pointer Pen, and choose Arrow Pointer Options→Arrow A
Display the laser pointer Pen, choose Arrow, and hold down Ctrl Pointer Options→Arrow, and hold down Ctrl A, hold down Ctrl
Hide the pointer Pen, and choose Arrow Options→Hidden Pointer Options→Arrow Options→Hidden Ctrl+H
Display a pen (or highlighter) Pen, and choose Pen (or Highlighter) Pointer Options→Pen (or Highlighter) Ctrl+P
Choose color for pen (or highlighter) Pen, and choose Ink Color, and select a color Pointer Options→Ink Color, and select a color
Display the eraser Pen, and choose Eraser Pointer Options→Eraser Ctrl+E
Erase pen lines Pen, and choose Erase All Ink on Slide Pointer Options→Erase All Ink on Slide E
Quit using pen or eraser Esc
End presentation End Show End Show Esc, Ctrl+Break, or hyphen
Display black screen Screen→Black Screen Screen→Black Screen B or period (.)
Display white screen Screen→White Screen Screen→White Screen W or comma (,)
Switch to another program Screen→Switch Programs Screen→Switch Programs Ctrl+T
