How to Create a Facebook Page for Your Business

Creating a page for your business on Facebook is a way to reach potential customers all over the country. If you haven’t already created an account on Facebook, you might want to (although you don’t have to). The account you create here is a lesser version of a full Facebook user account, but it’s still your account. You’re asked to enter your e-mail address and birth date, and you should enter accurate information. That way, if you ever decide that you want a personal profile, upgrading the account you create here is much easier than starting from scratch.

Pages can have multiple administrators. If you plan to have other people managing the Page you’re creating, they can do so from their accounts. There’s no reason to share the e-mail address or password with anyone. Use your real e-mail address and birth date. This information won’t be revealed to anyone else, and it makes your future interactions on Facebook much easier.

1

Navigate to the Facebook home page and log in with your username and password.

If you don’t have an account, you can create one.

2

Scroll to the bottom and then click Advertising.

The page you land on gives you an overview of the Facebook Advertising system for businesses.

3

Click the Pages link, located below the Facebook blue bar.

Read the copy on that page or click the Download Our Product Guide link. When you’re ready, click on the Create a Page button in the top-right corner.

4

Specify what kind of business you're trying to promote, as shown here.

Depending on the category you choose, your Facebook Page is created with a very specific set of fields and functionality. For example, specifying that your business is a restaurant allows you to specify your hours of operation, and specifying that you’re a musician gives you instant access to a discography.

5

Enter the name of your business, sign the page, and then click Create Page.

Enter the exact name of your business. You will need to confirm that you are a legal representative for your business by checking the appropriate box and then type in your electronic signature.

As soon as you click Create Page, you’re the proud admin of a Facebook Page. Now you're ready to start customizing it.
