How to Change the Order of Articles in List Layout in Joomla

In Joomla, you use the Menu Item Manager to change the article list layout order, because the layout of a page is determined by the menu item that links to that page (and the template used in that page). The Joomla default is to display the newest articles first.

To rearrange the order of articles in list layout so that the oldest articles appear first, follow these steps:

  1. In Joomla, choose Menus→Menu Manager in any back-end page to open Menu Manager.

  2. Click the name of the root menu that hosts the item you want to edit.

For this exercise, select Main Menu.

The Menu Item Manager page opens.

  3. Click the name of the menu item you want to edit to open the Edit Menu Item page.

  4. Click the Advanced Options bar to open that pane.

  5. Click on the Article Order drop-down menu and choose a new order from the options presented.

For this exercise, choose Oldest First.

  6. Click the Save or Save & Close button.
