In Pages, the Mac OS X Snow Leopard desktop publishing application, you can add shapes as a background and superimpose text over it. To add a shape (such as a rectangle or circle) as a background for your text, follow these steps:


Click the insertion cursor in the location you want.

This the location for the background shape


Click the Shapes button on the Pages toolbar and choose a shape.

The shape appears in your document.


(Optional) Click the center of the shape and drag it to a new spot.

As can image boxes, shapes can be resized or moved.


Type text over the shape.

Before you can type over a shape, remember to select it and choose Arrange→Send Object to Background.
