Accessing your PC’s settings is quite easy in Windows 8.1. In Windows 8.1, you can finally change settings without using the Control Panel and feeling like you’ve gone back in time. You’re no longer dumped into the desktop mode simply because you want to make some small adjustment.

To access the new settings, follow these steps:

Swipe in from the right (or drag the mouse from one of the right corners) and choose Settings.

The words Change PC Settings hide at the bottom of the Settings screen.

Tap or click the words Change PC Settings.

The PC Settings screen allows you to make adjustments without using the Control Panel.

The figure shows the Top Settings section of the PC Settings screen. Along the left side of the window you see various options for other settings you may want to adjust.

If you’re looking for a particular setting and aren’t sure where to find it, tap the magnifying glass icon to open the Search pane. Then enter the name of the setting you want to locate.

Select the Corners & edges option.

Some settings can be quite important to how you interact with Windows 8.1. The app-switching options control how Windows 8.1 handles switching between apps, and the Corner Navigation options control what the upper-left and upper-right corners of your display do.

Windows 8.1 also includes lock screen settings.
