How Do You Turn Windows 8.1 Off?

Among the thousand ways to turn off Windows 8.1, none of them are obvious or intuitive. If you’re looking at the old-fashioned desktop, you can turn the machine off by right-clicking the Start icon in the lower-left corner, and then choosing Shut Down/Shut Down or Shut Down/Restart.

If you’re looking at a full-screen Metro app (or snapped multiple apps), bring up the Charms bar by swiping from the right or hovering your mouse in the upper-right corner. Tap or click Settings. At the bottom of the Settings pane, you see the Power button. Tap or click Power and choose Shut Down.

You can also shut down from the old-fashioned desktop using the Settings Charm in the same way.
