For Seniors: Connect Speakers to a Laptop
Although your laptop might have built-in speakers, you can attach external speakers to the laptop in order to improve its sound quality. Connect laptop speakers by plugging them into the appropriate connection (often labeled with a little megaphone or speaker symbol). You can adjust the speakers' volume and the balance between the left and right speakers.
Choose Start→Control Panel→Hardware and Sound; then click the Manage Audio Devices link under the Sound category.
The Sound dialog box appears.
Click the Speakers item in the list, and then click the Properties button.
The Speakers Properties dialog box appears.
Click the Levels tab and then use the Speakers slider to adjust the speaker volume.
The number in the text box represents the percentage of full volume the speaker is set at. As you drag the slider, the speaker volume is adjusted.
If there is a small red x on the speaker button, click it to activate the speakers.
Click the Balance button, then use the L(eft) and R(ight) sliders to adjust the balance of sounds between the two speakers.
After you're done balancing the speakers, click OK three times to close all the open dialog boxes and save the new settings.
