manual transmission; standard transmission: A vehicle transmission system in which gears are selected by the driver by means of a hand-operated gearshift and a foot-operated clutch.

master cylinder: A device that stores brake fluid and hydraulically forces it through the brake lines to the brakes when you step on the brake pedal.
