If you’re close to a large object, such as this view of the ancient “Treasury” in Jordan’s Petra, a wide-angle lens lets you get everything into the picture. Since it is a kind of architectural shot, however, shooting with a wide-angle lens can make the image distorted—especially around the perimeter. That’s why this photo has plenty of margin, so that the surrounding rock formations could be distorted while the architectural elements were least affected.
