Troubleshoot a Video Chat on Your BlackBerry PlayBook

Conducting a video chat is among the niftier tricks of the BlackBerry PlayBook; two individuals — or two rooms full of people — can talk into the screen and see each others’ faces. It all takes place across the Internet, of course, and specifically it requires a WiFi connection.

If you’re having trouble starting or continuing a video chat, try these approaches:

  • Make sure you have a working connection to a WiFi network.

  • Make sure it can get to the Internet; one quick way to test that is to launch the browser and see if it will display a web page.

  • Find another WiFi network with a stronger signal. (And of course, the same applies for the other end of the connection; the link can be broken at either end.)

Just as with a BlackBerry Messenger call, using Video Chat requires two other things:

  • It only works between two BlackBerry PlayBook devices.

  • It must verify the BlackBerry ID used by each participant.
