Troubleshoot the BlackBerry PlayBook HDMI Output

As spectacular as the high-definition touchscreen of the BlackBerry PlayBook is when you hold it in your hands, it’s absolutely stunning when connected to an HD television or projector. That said, the process is a little bit squirrely. Some HD televisions and some cables aren’t perfectly compatible with the tablet.

If you have problems with the display on an HDMI monitor, try any or all of the following:

  • Check that the HDMI mode settings on the PlayBook are correct.

  • If the image is distorted (too big, too small, the corners are cut off, or the entire image is shifted to one side), adjust the Aspect Ratio settings on the tablet.

  • Make sure the HDMI cable is connected directly to the HD television, and not through a receiver or cable box.

  • If problems persist, try using a different HDMI port on the HD television; most sets offer several connections. Some may be on the sides and others on the back of the monitor.

  • Try using a different HDMI cable. Some cables, regardless of how much you paid for them, are made with inferior materials.

The HDMI control panel lets you adjust the signal sent from the tablet.
