From Macs For Dummies, 10th Edition by Edward C Baig

Macs and Windows are different operating systems; they see things differently, and many Mac users would argue that Macs do things better. Macs come equipped with helpful keyboard shortcuts and a short list of procedures to follow if your Mac freezes up.

How Mac Terminology Compares with Windows

A Mac operating system and a Windows operating system do basically the same things, Those operations just have different names and are found in different places. This table lays out the equivalents between the two.

  • Macs play chess. Challenge the computer or watch the computer challenge itself (Check Applications).

  • They’re multilingual. You can display menus and dialog boxes in 15 foreign languages. (Choose International in System Preferences.)

  • They recognize speech. Use your voice to open applications, choose menu items, and send e-mail. (Choose Speech in System Preferences.)

  • They enable you to use parental controls. Specify the Web sites your kids can visit, people they can e-mail or chat with, and applications they can run. (Choose Parental Controls in System Preferences.)

  • Macs allow video conferencing. Hold a video conference with up to three people through iChat AV (Access it through Applications).

Yeah, well, it would be real nice if my MAC mouse would simply right-click and save like my windows based PC one does. Or, even simply save a pic (specifically, Alburquerque Balloon Festival Banner) to my desktop for a PowerPoint presentation!

I've always had a DELL... now I have a MAC. HOW do you do DISK CLEANUP? or connecct to wifi? Before, I'd go to a wifi site, and it'd "connect".... my MAC OSX (Snow Leopard) doesn't do that. I am so frustrated. Would someone be kind enough to email me at angelalove@aol.com and help me? Just those 2 questions.... I promise I won't be aggravating.

guys...yo have to be much more intuitive in mac than in a horrible tedious PC, I swear it is muuch more easier. 1: if want to right click something just click control click and that will do the trick, besides the most recents mice DO have a right click, the note books do so too., and if you want to save something to your desktop, you dont even need to right click it, just drag it to the desktop and drop it, and there you go! 2:you dont do a disk clean up, the equivalent is: open finder, then go to applications folder, then to Utilities, and there double click on disk utility, and there you go ;), with the wi fi thing, you do not need to open any website or application at all, just click on the wi fi icon in the menu bar (the one that looks like RSS) and chose the network you want to join to, type the password and there you go!
