How to Move an Embedded Excel 2010 Chart to Its Own Chart Sheet

9 of 12 in Series: The Essentials of Working with Excel 2010 Charts

Excel 2010 automatically embeds new charts on the same worksheet as the source data, but you may find it easier to work with a chart if you move the chart to its own chart sheet in the workbook.

1

On the Chart Tools Design tab, click the Move Chart button to open the Move Chart dialog box.

If you don’t see the Chart Tools Design tab, select the chart to make this tab appear.

2

Click the New Sheet option button in the Move Chart dialog box.

This option places the chart on a new chart sheet that is added to the current workbook.

3

(Optional) Entering a more descriptive name to replace "Chart1."

This step is especially useful if you plan to have multiple chart sheets in the workbook.

4

Click OK to close the Move Chart dialog box.

The chart appears in its own chart sheet with the name displayed on the sheet tab.

If, after customizing the chart on its own sheet, you decide you want the finished chart to appear on the same worksheet as the data it represents, click the Move Chart button on the Design tab again and this time click the Object In option button. Then select the name of the worksheet in its associated drop-down list box before you click OK.
