How to Edit Your Facebook Smart Lists

Facebook makes Smart Lists on your behalf. Although these lists will be mostly accurate, you may find that you have to do some editing to them. It may also depend on how you want to use your lists. For example, you may want your Family list to make it easy to share with just your immediate family, and therefore need to remove the more distant members. Or, you want it to be a giant family reunion all the time, in which case you need to add some of the third and fourth cousins once removed to the mix.

To edit a Smart List, follow these steps:

1

Navigate to the list you want to edit by clicking it on the left side of your Home page in the Lists section.

If you’re not seeing the list you’re looking for there, hover over the Lists header and click the More link. This takes you to a list of all your Lists. Click the one you want to edit.

This takes you to a News Feed full of posts from the people on that list. On the right side of the page is an On This List section, where you can check out the current members of the list.

2

To add people to a list, type their names into the text box in the On This List section.

Facebook auto-completes as you type. Select your friend’s name when you see it.

3

To remove people from a list, click See All in the On This List section.

A pop-up window displays the names and pictures of all members of the list.

4

Hover over the person you want to remove.

A small X should appear in the upper-right corner of their picture.

5

Click the X.

Your lists should now be set up with the people you want on them.
