Create Documents with Word To Go on Your BlackBerry PlayBook

Once you get underway with using Word To Go in your BlackBerry PlayBook, you will find it remarkably familiar to its big brother, Microsoft Word. The bottom half of the screen shows the keyboard. The upper portion is blank. Just start typing. The first letter of a new sentence is automatically capped.

Depending on your agility as a two-finger typist and the acuity of your eyes, you may prefer to work in portrait mode; just rotate the tablet 90 degrees to see a smaller keyboard and a larger blank screen.

To type in Word To Go, use the following pointers:

  • TYPE IN ALL CAPS. Press and hold the aA button for a second or two. Go back to lowercase by tapping the button.

  • Change the keyboard to the first level of symbols, which includes numbers and the most commonly used grammatical symbols. Tap the 123sym button.

  • Change the keyboard to the second level of less-frequently used symbols. Tap the blue circle button. Tap the ABC123 button to see the lowercase keyboard.

  • Get a count of the number of words, characters, and paragraphs in the file. Tap the ABC123 icon.

  • Add boldface emphasis to a word you are about to type. Tap the B icon at the top of the screen. To make text not bold, tap the B icon again.

  • Add italics to text. Tap the I icon.

  • Add underline to text. Tap the U icon to turn on either type of emphasis; tap on the same icon once again to turn the emphasis off.

  • Change the font style. Tap the F icon.

  • Adjust the paragraph settings. Tap the paragraph mark icon. You can change alignment there.

  • Save your work. Display the menu bar by swiping down from the top bezel. Tap Save and type a filename. If your BlackBerry PlayBook is linked by Bluetooth to a BlackBerry smartphone, you can choose between saving the file on the tablet or in the smartphone’s flash memory card.
