How to Create Borders Using AutoFormat in Word 2007

By Dan Gookin

You can use the Word 2007 AutoFormat feature to quickly add a line, a double line, or a bold line above or below a paragraph. In Word, a line is called a border.

1To create a single line, type three hyphens (---) and press Enter.

Word instantly transmutes the three little hyphens into a solid line that touches the left and right paragraph margins.

2To create a double line, type three equal signs (===) and press Enter.

Word instantly transmutes the three equal signs into a double line that touches the left and right paragraph margins.

3To create a bold line, type three underlines (___) and press Enter.

Word instantly transmutes the three underlines into a bold line that touches the left and right paragraph margins.
