Through the Slide Show function on Playback Menu 2 on the Canon Rebel t5i, you can create a digital slide show featuring the best images and movies on your memory card. You can play the show on the camera monitor or, by connecting your camera to a TV, present the show to a roomful of people. Follow these steps:

Display Playback Menu 2 and choose Slide Show.

Display Playback Menu 2 and choose Slide Show.

The thumbnail shows the first image to appear in the slide show.

Also on this screen, you see the total number of images slated for inclusion in the show. On your first trip to this menu screen, all images on the card are selected for the show.

Tap the Select Files option or highlight it using the cross keys and press Set.

Tap the Select Files option or highlight it using the cross keys and press Set.

The option box becomes active, enabling you to specify which images or movies you want to include in the show. The option is set to select photos by date.

Press the up or down cross keys to scroll through the following settings:

All Images: Choose this setting to include all files, regardless of whether they’re still photos or movies.

Date: Select this option to play only pictures or movies taken on a single date. When you select the option, the little Info label underneath the option box turns white, allowing you to press the Info button or tap the icon to display a screen listing all the shooting dates on the memory card. Select a date and then press the Set button to exit the date list.

Folder: This option includes still photos and movies in the selected folder. Again, press the Info button or tap the Info icon to display a list of folders and highlight the one you want to use, and then press the Set button or tap the Set icon to exit the folder list.

Movies: Select this option to include only movies and video snapshots in your show.

Stills: Select this option to include only still photos.

Rating: This option enables you to select the photos and movies you want to see based on their ratings. Press Info or tap the Info icon to display a screen where you can specify the rating and see how many photos you assigned that rating. After selecting the rating, press Set or tap the Set icon to exit the rating screen.

You also can tap the Select Files box to display a screen containing all six options. After choosing an option, tap Set twice or press the Set button. You can then adjust settings by using the Info button or icon as described for those options that require it.

Press the Set button to deactivate the Select Files box. Then, choose the Set Up option.

Press the Set button to deactivate the Select Files box. Then, choose the Set Up option.

You cruise to a screen which offers the following options:

Display Time: This option determines how long each photo appears, with settings ranging from 1 to 20 seconds. Movies are always played in their entirety.

Repeat: Set this option to Enable if you want the show to play over and over until you decide you’ve had enough. Choose Disable to play the show only once.

Transition Effect: You can enable one of five different transition effects; experiment to see which one you like best. (They’re a little difficult to describe in print.) Choose Off if you don’t want any effects between slides.

Background Music: By using the EOS Utility software that ships with your camera, you can transfer music files to the camera memory card and then use the files as audio tracks for your slide show. In fact, Canon even supplies sample music files. If you’re interested, the EOS Utility user manual (found on another disc that ships with the camera) provides instructions.

If you do copy music to the card, set the Background Music option to on; then press the Set button or tap the Set icon to choose the music file you want to use.

After selecting playback options, tap Menu or press the Menu button to return to the main Slide Show screen. Tap Start or highlight it and press Set.

Your slide show begins playing.

During the show, you can do the following to control the display:

Pause playback: Press the Set button. While the show is paused, you can press the right or left cross key to view the next or previous photo. Press Set again or tap the onscreen Set icon to restart playback.

Change the information display style: Press the Info button.

Adjust sound volume: Rotate the Main dial.

Exit the show: To exit to the Slide Show setup screen, press the Menu button or, if the show is paused, tap the Menu icon. To return to normal playback mode, press the Playback button.
