Explore the World of Kindle Fire Apps

You can buy apps for your Kindle Fire by using the Amazon Appstore. This store is full of apps written especially for devices that are based on the Android platform, including Kindle Fire.

Android devices may have slightly different operating systems, and therefore not every app will work on every device.

Follow these steps to explore the world of apps:

  1. Tap the Apps button at the top of the Home screen to enter your Apps library.

  2. Tap the Store button.

At the top of the store is the offer Get a Paid App for Free Every Day.

  3. (Optional) Tap this option to download a free app to your device.

You can get a different free app every day; just be sure you don’t glut your Kindle Fire’s memory with free apps you’re not really going to use.

Below the free app offer are tabs. The tab labeled Top contains the most popular apps (this tab is active when you first open the store). Additional tabs include

  • New: This tab displays the latest apps that have been added to the store.

  • Games: Tap this tab to see featured game titles. Across the top of the Games section of the store are tabs such as Action, Adventure, Arcade, Board, Cards, Casino, Casual, Educational, Kids, Multiplayer, Music, Puzzles & Trivia, Racing, Role Playing, and Sports.

  • Entertainment: Here, you’ll find entertainment-related apps such as the IMDb movie database app or Old Time Radio Player. Three tabs — All, Top, and Recommended for You — help you browse for content.

  • Lifestyle: This category includes apps for managing various areas of your life, such as home design and relationships. Across the top are tabs including Home & Garden, Self Improvement, Astrology, Relationships, Hair & Beauty, Celebrity, Quizzes & Games, Advice, and Parenting.

  • News & Weather: Tap this tab to see apps that help you keep on top of the latest news and weather information. Across the top are tabs including World, U.S. Newspapers, Business, Politics, Entertainment, Sports, Science & Tech, Health, and Weather.

  • Utilities: These apps help you maintain your Kindle Fire and organize your life. Across the top are tabs including Battery Savers, Alarms & Clocks, Calculators, Calendars, and Notes.

  • Social Networking: Use this tab to find social networking apps for services such as Facebook and LinkedIn.

On the bar containing categories, you are able to view only the beginning of the News & Weather category. Press your finger on the farthest right of this category bar and swipe to the left to reveal the last few categories listed.

You can also tap the Top tab to see the best-selling apps in each category, tap the All Categories tab to view all apps, or tap the Recommended for You tab to see recommendations in that category based on your buying history.
