How To Take Notes on iPad
Notes is an iPad application that you can use to do everything from jotting down notes at meetings to keeping to-do lists. Notes isn’t a robust word processor like Apple Pages or Microsoft Word, but for taking notes on the fly, jotting down to-do lists, or writing down important thoughts, it’s a great option.
You can’t print notes, or add formatting to them, but you can import them into a word processor (such as Pages) to accomplish such tasks.
1Tap the Notes app icon on the Home screen.
If you’ve never used Notes, it opens with a new, blank note displayed, otherwise the last note you were working on appears. If you are holding your iPad in portrait orientation, it will look like the screen shown here.
To create a new note, tap the plus button in the upper right corner.
2Tap the blank page.
The onscreen keyboard appears. If you are holding your iPad in landscape orientation, it will look like the screen shown here.
3Tap keys on the keyboard to enter text.
Text you type appears on the note page.
Notes names your note using the first line of text. If you want to give the note a different name, replace the first line of text.
4If you want to enter numbers or symbols, tap either of the keys labeled .?123 on the keyboard.
The numerical keyboard appears. To return to the alphabetic keyboard, tap either of the keys labeled ABC.
With the numerical keyboard displayed, tap either of the keys labeled #+= to access more symbols, such as the percentage sign, euro symbol, or additional bracket styles. Pressing and holding certain keys displays alternative characters.
5To capitalize a letter, tap a Shift key at the same time as you tap the letter.
The Shift keys are the ones with the upward-pointing arrows on them.
You can turn caps lock on by double-tapping one the Shift key; tap the key once to turn the feature off.
6When you want to start a new paragraph or a new item in a list, tap the Return key.
The cursor is moved to the next line.
7To edit text, tap the text to position the cursor.
Tap the Delete key to delete text to the left of the cursor. Type new text if you like.
No need to save a note — it’s automatically kept until you delete it.
