Droid 3 Home Screens
The main screen on the Droid 3 is called the Home screen. There are actually five Home screen panels to choose from, as illustrated here:
Droid 3 Soft Buttons
The Droid 3 features four important buttons, found below the touchscreen. They’re called the soft buttons, and this table explains what these buttons can do:
Droid 3 Touchscreen Operations
You can perform several basic actions on your Droid 3’s touchscreen. It’s just a matter of teaching your fingers to do what you want them to.

|Touch||Touch the screen.|
|Double-tap||Touch the screen twice in the same location.|
|Long Press||Touch a spot on the screen and keep your finger down.|
|Swipe||Touch a spot on the screen and drag your finger left, right,
up, or down.
|Flick||Do the same thing as a swipe (except faster).|
|Pinch||Use two fingers to touch the screen and bring both fingers
together as you continue to touch the screen.
|Spread||Use two fingers close together and then spread them apart,
touching the screen as you spread them.
|Rotate||Use two fingers to twist around a central point which has the
effect of rotating an object on the screen.
Droid 3 Tricks to Remember
Here is an assortment of handy time-saving tricks to keep in mind to boost your productivity (or your hopeless addiction to your new Droid 3 phone).
Use the arrow keys on the sliding keyboard to easily hop between links on a web page.
Dictation! You can speak into the phone as an effective and quick alternative to using the onscreen keyboard.
Use the sliding keyboard menu shortcuts: Press the Menu key, then a key on the sliding keyboard to activate a command on the menu.
Press and hold a key on the multitouch keyboard to confirm that your stubby fingers have selected the right character.
When using the sliding keyboard, use the arrow keys to navigate between menu items.
Quickly put the Droid 3 into vibration mode by pressing the Down Volume button until the phone jiggles.
When you’re on the phone, press the power button to lock the phone and turn off the touchscreen.
When downloading updates, new apps, or for faster web browsing, activate the Droid 3’s Wi-Fi.
Use the Search soft button to look for things on the phone, on the Internet, or in a specific app.
