How to Transfer Files or Share Your Screen with Skype

Skype can be a great tool for those who use Windows 10 for work. Skype allows you to easily transfer files to others and also offers a share screen option to make sharing and collaboration easy.

Transfer files in Skype

When communicating with others on Skype, you may need to transfer files. To send a file to the person you’re talking to, follow these steps:

  1. In the chat window, click the Send Contacts and Media button.

    The button is in the shape of a staple. It’s on the left side of the box where you enter your messages when chatting with someone.

  2. In the menu that appears, click Send File.

  3. Browse to the file that you want to send, select it, and then click Open.

    Now you just wait for the file to be accepted and downloaded by the other person.

Share your screen in Skype

When you’re in an audio or video call with others, you can share your device screen with them.

Sharing is especially useful when you have to collaborate on a document or project with others. They can see what you’re working on.

To share your screen on Skype, follow these steps:

  1. Start Skype and sign in to your account.

  2. Start an audio call or a video call with another person or a group of people.

  3. Move your mouse over the call window to bring up several buttons with actions that can be performed during the call.

  4. Click the + button.

  5. In the menu that is shown, click Share screens.

    You’re asked to confirm that you want to share your screen and how you want to share it.

  6. Click Start.

    Your screen is now shared.

  7. When you want to stop sharing your screen, click the Stop sharing button shown in the top-right corner of the screen.
