How to Allow Your Apple Watch to Unlock Your Mac

By Bob LeVitus

macOS Sierra is the first release that lets you unlock your Mac by merely wearing your Apple Watch. As improvements continue to be made with Apple Watch, you will likely see more integration between the two devices, allowing you to do even more with both. For now, unlocking your Mac with Apple Watch is a cinch!

To turn it on, enable the Allow Your Apple Watch to Unlock Your Mac check box in the Security & Privacy System Preferences pane’s General tab. Then just walk up to your Mac while wearing your unlocked Apple Watch, and you’ll be automatically logged into your user account in a jiffy.

Sweet!

One last thing: If you don’t see the Allow Your Apple Watch to Unlock Your Mac check box in the Security & Privacy System Preferences pane’s General tab, your Mac may be too old to support this feature.
