How to Set Up an Electric Guitar Track in GarageBand in iLife ’11
Have a sweet riff for guitar you need to try out? GarageBand in iLife ’11 should be your new best friend. Rather than spend a fortune on special effects boxes, pedals, and amplifiers in real life to try to discover your unique sound, you can try out effects and amplifier settings in GarageBand in iLife. Here’s how it works:
Choose Electric Guitar to start your project.
The GarageBand window appears with a Guitar track, named Clean Combo, in the timeline. This track offers amplifier settings and is ready to record your plugged-in electric guitar.
Click the Info button (it has the i icon) to open the Info pane for the Electric Guitar track.Click the amplifier to change its settings for an Electric Guitar track.
If the Guitar Track tab isn’t already selected, click it to see the Guitar Track settings.
Click the Clean Combo track and pluck some strings on your electric guitar to hear how it sounds.
(Optional) Experiment with settings that appear when you click the amplifier, the sustain pedal, and the delay pedal.
(Optional) After you’ve chosen your gear, click the Edit button to customize the arrangement with pedals for special effects.
Your options include a Fuzz Machine, Sustain, Flanger, Chorus, and Delay pedals.
That’s all you need to do, GarageBand remembers your settings. However, if you want to reuse these custom settings so that you can use the identical instrument, sound, and effects settings in another song, save your settings.
