WordPress, the most widely used blogging platform, offers hundreds of social plug-in marketing options. Here are the universal steps for installing a plug-in on a WordPress platform:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.

In the left column of your dashboard, you see multiple categories, with links below each category.

  2. Click the Plugins link.

You can find this link in the left column on your dashboard. After you click the Plugins link, you see a list of plug-ins that are already installed on your WordPress site.

  3. Click the Add New button (near the top of the page).

Now you see a search field.

  4. Type Facebook Like Button in the search box, and click Search Plugins.

Multiple plug-ins appear in a list format. Each plug-in has a short summary explaining its features. You can take the time to research which plug-in meets your needs, or you can do a little research in advance and search for the one you already know you want.

  5. When you find the plug-in you want to install, click Install Now below the specific plug-in’s name.

You may see a page that asks you to enter your FTP username and password. This information is required to host the plug-in on your web server. If your FTP username has already been added, you may not be prompted for this information.

  6. Enter your FTP username and password, and click Proceed.

If you don’t remember your credentials, you can contact the company that hosts your website to get this information.

You see an Installing Plugin page. The installation starts automatically. Wait a few seconds, and you see a Successfully installed plugin message and an Activate Plugin link.

  7. Click Activate Plugin.

You’re ready to set up your plug-in.

  8. Click the Settings link to the newly activated plug-in.

You can find the Settings link of your plug-in by locating the Settings category in the left column of your WordPress dashboard. After you click your new plug-in, you see a page with options to change the settings of the plug-in. Each Settings page differs, depending on the plug-in.

If you have questions, you see a link back to the official page of the plug-in that you just installed. You can click that link to find out more information about your plug-in and get answers to any questions you may have.
