Where You Can Find Fundamental Data for Trading

Fundamental data — corporate information such as revenue, earnings, and cash flow — isn’t as perishable as price data or trading statistics, but accessing these numbers directly from your trading platform as they’re updated is a nice feature. Some platforms also include other key fundamental information such as GDP growth, inflation indicators, and jobs reports.

Many brokers provide access to at least some fundamental data, but if you’d like to run the numbers yourself, many of these online sources can review the raw financial data:

  • The Wall Street Journal: The Wall Street Journal is available online by subscription. It provides access to a wide variety of information including stock quotes, stock valuation indexes, fundamental ratios, industry comparisons, insider transactions, earnings estimates, and stock analysis reports. Delayed-price charts also are available.

A digital subscription is $21.99 per month for digital access only. You can get a paper version delivered to your home for $4 more per month (but don’t expect updates throughout the day).

  • Edgar: All publicly traded companies are required to file 10-Q and 10-K quarterly and annual reports electronically with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) through its Electronic Data Gathering Analysis and Retrieval system (EDGAR). These reports are available to everyone online at no charge.
