What to Check After Logging In to Facebook

Facebook is all about staying in touch with friends. Right after you log into Facebook, check out which of your friends has a birthday coming up, the requests you've received, and what your friends are up to.

Check Your . . . What It Is How to Do It
Requests Friends asking to connect with you, inviting you to events or groups, or suggesting applications Click the relevant request in the top right of the home page. If you have no requests, the Requests box doesn't appear.
Upcoming birthdays A list of friends’ birthdays occurring within the next few days Check for Birthdays in the right column of the Home page. Friends who haven’t listed their birthdays won’t appear in this list.
Inbox Messages from friends, Groups or Events you’re a part of, or businesses you subscribe to Click the Inbox link in the blue bar at the top. If you see a number in a blue circle next to the link, that means you have that number of new or unread messages.
News Feed A continuous stream of updates about your friends’ activities on and off Facebook Check the Home page—the continuous stream flows down the center column.
Instant Chat A list of which friends are online and available to chat Click the Chat button on the Chat bar at the bottom of any Facebook Page.
