Viewing Your Drupal Forums

After you have created some Drupal forums and containers, you may want to take a look at them. To view them, you need to create a forum topic. Follow these steps:

  1. From the Dashboard menu bar, choose Add Content→Forum Topic.

This opens the Create Forum Topic overlay.

  2. Enter a subject and body in the Subject and Body text boxes that make sense for posting in one of the forums you created.

In this example, a post that shows off a new Drupal site was created.

  3. Choose the appropriate forum from the Forums drop-down list.

We chose Look at My Site from the Forums drop-down list.

You can tell the containers from the forums in this list. The forums all have a dash in front of their names to indicate they’re underneath containers in the hierarchy.

  4. When you’re finished, click Save.

To see your containers and forums, browse to /forum under your domain name. In our case, it’s http://drupalfordummies.com/book/forum.

After you’re on your main forum page, you can see posted forum topics by clicking forums that contain posts. In the next illustration, you can see that a post exists under the forum Look at My Site.

To see the individual forum topic posts, click the forum title. In this case, when the forum Look at My Site is clicked you end up on the forum topic list shown.

The easy way to create new forum topics is to drill down into the forum and click the Add New Forum Topic link, as shown in the above illustration.

Unlike containers and forums, forum topics exist to allow discussion. To view a forum topic and reply to it, click the link to the topic. In the above illustration, clicking the Hey, Check It Out! link takes you to a page where you can comment on this topic.

By default, only the administrator can create containers and forums. Signed-in users can create forum topics and add a comment to a forum topic thread.
