Using Siri to Find a Location with an Address
While the iPhone 4S is not as powerful as standalone GPS navigation units that speak to you, it's very convenient for Siri to take you to a particular location. Siri isn't just for finding addresses you know; you can also ask Siri to take you to landmarks, attractions, and businesses.
For example, say you're in Orange County, California, and want to know how to get to Disneyland. You don't need to search for a specific address to the theme park in Anaheim — just let Siri know that you really want to see Mickey.
Press and hold the Home button.
Begin speaking after the short chime.
Tell Siri, "Take me to Disneyland!" (as if you’ve just won the Super Bowl).
Siri opens up the Maps application, figures out where you are based on the iPhone 4S's GPS, and shows you the way to Disneyland.
Pack up the kids and head out the door.
You'll see visual directions to the park, either with a standard view, satellite view, or hybrid of the two.Siri opens Maps and show you the standard view to your destination.Alternatively, you can view the map using a satellite or hybrid view (the latter of which is shown here).
Tap the small Page Turn icon in the lower-right corner of the Maps screen to make your selection.Choose a route.
Notice that the Maps app can show you alternate routes, where applicable. In fact, the Maps app can often show you traffic information as well, if you like —just tap the lower right-hand corner of the screen and select "Show Traffic" (if available). This might sway you to take one route over another. Traffic near L.A.? Unheard of (cough)!
You can instruct Siri to take you home, wherever you are. It's as easy as asking. However, you might not want to take advantage of this feature, especially if you don't make it a habit of locking your iPhone 4S. Why, you ask? If you lose your smartphone, a tech-savvy thief can ask Siri to "take me home" and know exactly where you live. Instead, perhaps you want to put your local shopping mall as your home address, as you can likely find your way home from there without any assistance. Just food for thought!
