Use Bing Local in Your Location-based Marketing Campaign

Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, has its own location-based business directory called Bing Local. Bing Business Portal allows you to do things like tailor or correct the information about your business and submit your web-site’s site map so that Bing has a better idea of how to crawl your site. It also allows you access to search engine marketing. The results appear in Bing and Bing Local.

You will need to sign up for a Live Windows ID to get access to Bing Local’s Business Portal.

You actually have a great deal of control over your listing, through the dashboard.

  • Details: Specify your address and phone number, web addresses, your Facebook account, Twitter account, your logo, and other special purpose phone numbers, web-sites, and e-mails.

  • Profile: Specify the type of business you are from multiple categories. There is a cool variable bar chart that you can use to specify how dedicated your organization is to a particular category as well.

  • Mobile: Create a free mobile web-site. It’s a pretty rudimentary way to put your products and specials (also defined in that tab) online.

  • Photos: Add up to 9 photos that you want people to see on your company page.

Photos give potential customers a sense of what your business is like, so make sure that the photos are bright, clean, and demonstrate a positive experience.

  • More Details: Give an even deeper dive into your organization from the year established and company tagline, to a description of your business, languages spoken, brands carried, professional affiliations, and a chance to tweak your placement on the map.

Customers can also make a reservation using OpenTable through Bing Local.
